New Labyrinth at Breezy Fields

Monica created a mowed version of the Chartres Labyrinth this weekend at Breezy Fields.

She checked out the book "Exploring the Labyrinth" by Melissa Gayle West and some other books about labyrinths. The book by West tells how to do it with masking tape. But she ended up starting it slightly differently based on what he did in his back yard...see link http://northernelectric.ca/medieval/labyrinth/labyrinth.htm

She made the center circle and the first 5 circular paths with a string tied to the small tree in the center and a weed eater. She had marked the string at appropriate intervals to allow for the size of path & "wall width " she wanted. Then she used the push mower with the blades up high for the next 6 circular paths. (She used the previous created circle as a guide for the next one and just eyeballed it as she went around.) Then I helped Monica as she laid 2 pieces of surveyors string staked at the edges making a perpendicular (90 degree angles) intersection at the center. Then Monica followed the instructions in the West book and made the paths with the mower blades on the lowest setting. She used pieces of wood to guide her so she wouldn't accidentally mow a path where there should be switch backs.  We don't know how long it is each way. But I have a rolling odometer I bought years ago from NorthernTool. (impulse buy). So I guess we will finally get to put it to use ;-) We'll let you know when we know.
